Stephanie -Unflitered

Recovering conformist. A remedial work in progress.

About

Stephanie holds a masters degree in counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is passionate about addressing religious/spiritual abuse and the many facets of trauma carried with it.

Stephanie was raised in an authoritarian, fundamentalist sect of the evangelical church otherwise known as the Assemblies of God. There, she and other girls exposed to a strict patriarchal hierarchy learned the expectation of chastity, submission, and not tempting men to falter by masking our sexual (and therefore shameful) features. Our developmental years were ruled by creationism, biblical inerrancy, and replacing communion wine with grape juice (because alcohol causes too much sin to take the risk of making the brethren commit adultery while potentially inebriated). So, the remedial focus is intense to say the least.

Stephanie currently works at a practice in Woodland Park, Colorado. She has previously served as the mental health team lead of a counseling department for a Colorado school district, managed the stylist team for a Denver-based barber/salon business, and served as a secretary to Kansas State Representatives during the legislative season.

Originally from Denver, she has also lived in Minnesota and Kansas. She is a mother of two amazing daughters alongside her partner of close to 30 years. She loves books, playing violin, road trips, hiking, challenging the patriarchy, and writing.
